Worn by ladies of wealth, the henin was a felt hat that tapered towards the end. On the continent, it was sometimes very long, but in England, it was worn truncated. Can be worn plain, with a soft frontlet strip of velvet or silk and/or with a silk veil. Sometimes wires, sewn to the hat, lifted the veil up.
